What is a scholarly article?
A scholarly article also may be referred to as peer reviewed or academic literature.
The authors of these articles tend to be experts in their field who have done in-depth research and analysis of their findings. The articles are put through a rigorous editorial process by scholars in the same field. The scope of the topics covered in scholarly journals tends to be very narrow. They are sometimes hard to understand because they use expert language and assume the reader posesses background knowledge. This is why you will oftentimes find it necessary to look at other resource, like your textbook, to contextualize what is being said in the article.
Theses article are found by searching the library's databases.
Components of a scholarly article include (depending on the discipline) :
- Literature Review
- Results (What was the outcome?)
- Areas for Future Research
- Bibliography/Reference list
