The request it button has a couple of different functions.

You can see from the example below that this book is currently signed out. If you would like to borrow this book you can press the request it button to put a hold on it.  Once a hold is placed on a book, an email is sent to the person who currently has it signed out. This email notifies them that another patron would like to borrow the book.

If they have had the book out for at least three weeks, they are given five days to return it.  Once the book is returned you will receive an email stating that the book is now available to borrow. The book will  be held in the reserve room to the right of the circulation desk until it is picked up.

The request it button can also be used to request items in the stacks. This is useful if you are doing  research from home and want to ensure that a book will be available when you come to UNBC.  Books that are in the library will be placed in the reserves room within 24 hours of the request being placed.
