Below are points that highlight the difference between popular and scholarly literature.

Popular Literature

-Authors tend to be journalists not scholars
-They may be free to express their own opinions without substantiating evidence
-Cited references, abstracts, and bibliographies are notably absent
-Popular literature tends to be published for commercial purposes
-The scope of the article tends to be very broad

Scholarly Literature

-Referred to as scholarly, peer reviewed or refereed journal articles.
-Authors tend to be experts in the field.
-Articles are the result of in-depth research and analysis of the findings.
-The articles are accompanied by citations and a bibliography.
-The articles are put through a rigorous editorial process.
-The scope of the topics covered tends to be very narrow.
