The Latin word [sic] sometimes shows up in a quote and indicates that the original quote includes some kind of error or outdated spelling. It is used to inform the readers that the word occurs in the original quote and is intentionally included. Square brackets are placed around the word [sic] to indicate that this word is an addition to the original quote.
