The library search allows you to go beyond basic keyword searching using the advanced search option!

The advanced search allows you to create complex search strings using Boolean Operators (AND, OR, & NOT), as well as search by: author, call number, DOI, ISBN, Title, subject heading and more!

  • Author (searches for books and articles by a particular author) e.g.

  • Call Number (search for a specific title by the call number to go directly to the book's item record)

  • DOI (Digital Object Identifier : DOIs are normally assigned to journal articles and serve as a permanent and direct link to the item. Simply select DOI from the dropdown menu to locate a particular article).

  • ISBN (The International Standard Book Number is a series of 13 numbers that uniquely identify a particular book and specific editions of that title. You can search this number by selecting ISBN (bn:) from the dropdown menu)

  • Title (Selecting Title (ti:) from the dropdown menu allows you to search for a specific text by title. Searching this way will bring up all editions that the library has.)

  • Subject Heading (Books in our library are organized according to Library of Congress Subject Headings [LCSH]. Every book has a subject heading attached to it which serves to describe the subject matter of that text. It tells you what it is about! When you find a relevant book, make sure that you examine the book's record for relevant subject headings so that you can search for and locate other books on the same subject.)

You can also mix and match the options search keywords AND author or even subject heading and author as seen below.

There are a lot of options presented to you at the bottom of the page. Don't worry about using those options when doing your initial search. Those options will be presented to you through the facets located on the left hand side of the screen on the results page.
