What is Interlibrary loans (ILL)

Interlibrary loans (ILL), is the system that allows the library to make available materials that we do not own or subscribe to. When you request an ILL we search for the item in other libraries and request it from them.

What material can I request?

You may submit an ILL request for any item that is not available at the UNBC library. Providing items, however, depends on their availability in other libraries.

How long does it take to get an ILL

We try to get you the items you need as fast as we can. As long as they are readily available, you can expect articles and book chapters to arrive in about 1-3 business days. Books available from Canadian libraries usually arrive within 1-3 weeks. Requests from outside of Canada may take longer.

How long can I keep an item borrowed through ILL

You may keep an Interlibrary Loan for up to 6 weeks, depending on the lending library's terms. ILL items might be renewable - email the ILL office to ask.

How much does the service costs?

Interlibrary Loan service is free for students!!!

See here for ILL fees for other patrons
